VT Dept of Libraries - Community Poetry Programming for Libraries

Led by poet and teaching artist Rajnii Eddins and building on their own experience of creative expression cultivated in Session 1, librarians will explore ways they can invite members of their local communities to express feelings about rural isolation. Do they feel marginalized due to age, ethnicity, education level, ableness, gender or sexual identity? Do they have the supports they wish they had? Does the library feel like a safe and inviting place? Has the pandemic affected any of these feelings?

Librarians will be encouraged to host writing experiences for their communities exploring these issues and others they may identify. Whether library buildings are open or not, they will also be encouraged to share the writing created so that the project has an impact throughout the community, bringing people together in shared experience and expression.
